He has operated his own firm since 2003; served as Visiting Legal Director of the Willliams Institute, a think tank at UCLA School of Law; and successfully represented same-sex couples in one of the cases in which the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in June 2015 that same-sex couples throughout the nation have a constitutional right to marry.
